The beautiful former residence of assembly chairman Torajiro Asakura, this perfectly preserved traditional Japanese home is one of my favorite places in Tokyo. A place to seek peace of mind, it is snugly situated off a side street in Daikanyama, just waiting to be explored.

While the house itself is a lovely way to connect with Japanese traditional design, my favorite part is the garden. It is in Japan where I first began to truly appreciate the beauty of seasonality– and in this garden, you can see it with your own eyes. I suggest visiting in the months of November and December, where the colors of autumn leaves will leave you speechless.
