A perfect day trip from Hong Kong, Lantau Island is easily connected by the MTR, taking only about 30 minutes. 

I recommend taking the cable cars- though popular, the views are so worth it. Beware if you have a fear of heights as you are extremely high up!

Have a look at the Big Buddha and head to the island’s small fishing village Tai O for an authentic taste of of local life- and a huge contrast from the madness of the city.
