Little did I know I would find the most brilliant afternoon tea of my life not in England, but Japan. If anyone knows how to wow, it’s Hotel Janu.

Tea menus vary based on the season, taking inspiration from spotlighted ingredients and collaborations with local artists. The presentation is simply spectacular- with each tiny bite a masterpiece itself. The dishes are inventive, with even the savories resembling patisserie.

In their spring collaboration with artist Tomokazu Matsuyama, I sampled spring onion flan with snow crab, bouillabaisse jelly in a crystal dish, sakura berry mousse, and of course, plenty of scones. As for teas, you will have the best of the best at your fingertips- a selection of the finest brews from across Japan.

Make sure to book in advance and request a table with a gorgeous view over the Tokyo Tower.

If tea isn’t your thing, stop into Janu Bar instead for sophisticated cocktails in the evening.
