A temple known for its towering stone structure, Wat Chedi Luang is one of the most intriguing sites in Chiang Mai. With a base protected by grand elephant statues, this now partially ruined temple once stood as the tallest structure in all of Chiang Mai. Note that you should dress respectfully to visit this temple or you may not be permitted to enter.
There a few temples across the property- and within them, plenty of stories. You may see glass marbles inside these temples- but in fact, these are no normal marbles. Each marble is composed of the ashes of a deceased monk who once served the temple– being surrounded by thousands of these orbs is surreal!
"Wat Chedi Luang is one of the best places to connect with Buddhism- particularly through the daily Monk Chats!"
