Mealtime is sacred at the breathtaking Sanyo-so. In the ryokan’s dining room, each day begins and ends with a meal that is simply poetic.
Classical music floats through the air as you enter Sanyo-so’s restaurant space. An intimate table is prepared, just for you– surrounded by woven Japanese dividers, creating a private dining experience. The walls adorned with hand-carved gold mountains, the scene is set for a meal just as refined as its surroundings.
This is not just any meal- this is kaiseki, the pinnacle of Japanese cuisine, an art form in itself. Each dish is impeccably created, from the locally-sourced ingredients to the very ceramics on which it’s served, every detail has been carefully considered. Finding inspiration in the valley streams and the mountain peaks of the Izu Peninsula, this is a meal crafted around the environment from which it stems- an ode to the land.
A delight to the senses, dining at Sanyo-so is a symphony of flavors. Lily bulb tofu with ume and caviar, cod softly melted into a fresh yuzu, flawless slices of tuna belly alongside wasabi harvested from the local river. Softly stewed daikon, fugu jelly, wagyu beef and delicately cooked vegetables. A gorgeous breakfast bento, filled with bite after bite of flavor, color, the essence of the season and the land.
With each new dish, you will find yourself nothing short of inspired- and waiting, in great anticipation, for a day when you can once again dine at Sanyo-so.
